Giuggiulena (Sesame Cookies)

Originally from Palermo, but they are found all over the beautiful island of Sicily.  The story goes that they were named after Queen Margherita of Savoia, hence sometimes called Biscotti Regina – Queen cookies.

Traditionally served after the wedding ceremony and dinner as part of the dessert.  Often they are set on the table with the wedding cake.  Sometimes, the wedding cake is actually the cookies piled on top of one another.  While called wedding cookies they are popular at any time of the year.

Also known as Buccellati hail from Sicily and traditionally served at Christmas time. They reveal the culinary legacy of the diverse cultures that influenced the island throughout history.

Tetu (Chocolate Spice)

Traditionally prepared on All Saint’s Day (November 1st) in Sicily or during the Christmas holidays in North America. The term Tetu apparently means ‘for you and for me’ or ‘one for you and one for me’.
